Description

This small development of five individual and characterful contemporary detached houses is approached down a long tree-lined private driveway off Granville Road. The immediately obvious attractions of the location are the panoramic views across the valley to the east and south east, and the backdrop of mature trees surrounding the historic Ensleigh House grounds on the western side. The slope across the site has been carefully used to provide each house with the maximum benefit of the outlook from all the principle rooms.

The long driveway means that all the houses will feel very much in a separate world from Granville Road and each will have the privacy and security of an enclosed courtyard area, behind stone walls and electrically operated gates.

We have agreed sales for Plots 1, 3 & 4. Plots 2 and 5 are currently still available. Plot 5 is accessed via its own driveway.

The individually designed houses are very much in the contemporary architectural style which has been highly praised on the adjacent Lansdown Ridge site. Externally, these have the trademark strongly horizontal architectural emphasis, with wide expanses of sliding glass, large raised decks, and projecting zinc roofs.

Materials have been chosen for quality and maintenance free longevity. On the entrance side smooth Bath Stone and Cotswold coursed rubble combine to impart a feeling of solidity and weight, echoing tradition, without diluting the contemporary form. Other walls are in lightly textured through colour (ie. not painted) render, the clean lines of which suits the architectural style. The highly efficient glazing is in powder coated aluminium (also no painting), with zinc rainwater goods. The low pitched zinc roofs are a matt, non-reflective soft grey colour very similar to lead (which the standing seams also mimic). Whilst again unashamedly modern, there is a deliberate echo of the Italianate style regency villas which cluster on the hillsides around Bath, the zinc is long lasting and the deep overhanging eaves provide good shading and weather protection.

Internally the contemporary design includes the open plan living areas, double height stair voids and other features that impart the character which suits this increasingly popular “lifestyle” choice. The wide expanse of glazing takes best possible advantage of the panoramic outlook, and certainly imparts a “wow” factor from inside, as well as leading onto a large decked area. This has its own stair connecting to the garden below, again providing the seamless connection between indoors/outdoors which is so important to modern living.
